There are always Letters To The Editor that are pining for America to "bring back" God to our schools, our homes, etc. Over and over they blame our modern problems on "taking God out" of our lives and fantasize about a time when America was a "Godly" nation. They have some serious memory issues.
Remember when Bible reading was practiced in school? Remember how kids of all colors sat together and read the scripture? No? That's because we separated people by race at that time. We considered an entire race of people so beneath us that they had to drink in separate fountains, eat at separate counters, and marry only their "own kind." An interracial marriage was illegal when we were more "Godly" as a nation.
Throughout history "Godly" missionaries have entered "savage" societies and destroyed their culture and killed and enslaved their people. Here in our "Godly" nation we damn near eliminated the "savages" who were unfortunate enough to be living here when we "discovered" the land.
For all of our faults today, I'll take the way we treat each other today over the way we treated anybody who had a different color or religion back when we were "Godly." Yeah it was great to be white in the good old days, but not so much so for anyone else.
Merry Christmas
